1. How do you obtain your information? Top Researchers conduct proprietary research. Our primary sources of information are the parent company, annual reports, press releases and other public and private sources, and subscriptions and relationships developed over fifty years in business. We also rely on telephone, fax and email conversation for verification and clarification. Teams of researchers double-check data collection and entries for data quality and completeness.
2. How often is the data updated? Top Daily – as corporate business changes occur. Each and every record in the database/directory is reviewed, at least once per year; the industry standard. Regularly scheduled quality control programs are enacted on a daily basis by our team of researchers. Business records published by Uniworld Business Publications are more than collected data. Business records are organized, ordered, and standardized for ease of use. Corporate Watch Lists are maintained on announcement of impending mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and spinoffs, buyouts, etc., and promptly added to the proper directories accordingly. All updates and edits are included in Uniworld Online and available to all subscribed customers within 24 hours of the update/edit. 3. Is the information available for free on the Internet? Top No. The relationship between the direct expense of the information and the time required to obtain it should be to the user’s advantage. A study published in Cincinnati Business Journal (2003) estimated an individual seeking “quick search” answers can easily be spending upwards of $12,000 per year by just using the Web to do quick searches. Compare that to the cost of Uniworld Business Publications’ product offerings and the choice is clear. 4. Who uses your directories? Top Reference and research about companies, countries, industries and people is changing today. Our business information is used by anyone interested in multi-national business activities. It is used by the public, universities, business, government and economic agencies, manufacturers, financial institutions, accounting, law and business consultants, investment firms, executive recruiters, embassies and many others, public, private and individuals. Custom or special versions that meet your criteria with a combination of country, state, revenue range, postal code/zip code, NAICS code(s) are possible. When “more is less” turn to Uniworld Business Publications, Inc. Chinese firms operating in California, or California firms operating in China, and many other “specials” are our bread and butter. 6. How long have you been publishing these books? Top The "Directory of American Firms Operating in Foreign Countries" has been published since 1955. The "Directory of Foreign Firms Operating in the United States" has been published since 1969. New editions to both hard cover books will occur the first quarter of the year. Though our name – Uniworld Business Publications” says “books”, we also provide Uniworld ONLINE, a web-based solution for your needs. 7. What is the NAICS Code? Top Included with every firm is a numeric industrial classification. We have chosen the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), which has replaced the U.S. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC). Click Here for NAICS Code definitions.
NAICS 2002 is the same as NAICS 1997 for fourteen of the twenty sectors. Construction and wholesale trade are substantially changed, but the revisions also modify a number of retail classifications and the organization of the information sector. Very minor boundary adjustments affect administrative and support services and mining. NAICS code classification provides more robust and precise industry classification than the older SIC code structure, including the classification of companies that were not prevalent or in existence decades ago when the SIC code was established. More precise targeting and organization is available through NAICS. Click Here to convert from SIC to NAICS. 8. Are the products returnable? Top The region, country, state and Special Orders are all FINAL SALE. The World Edition Hardcover editions have a 10-day preview policy and are only returnable in sellable condition. All shipping and handling charges are the responsibility of the customer. There is no restocking fee. 9. When will the next world edition reference book be published? Top The 15th edition of the "Directory of Foreign Firms Operating in the United States" was published in June, 2010. Due to the costs of printing and the availability of Uniworld Online the 15th edition will most likely be the last hardcopy edition.
The 20th edition of the Directory of American Firms Operating in Foreign Countries was published in April 2009. Due to the costs of printing and the availability of Uniworld Online the 20th edition will most likely be the last hardcopy edition.
We are no longer accepting standing order for our hardcopy books. Sorry! Check out Uniworld Online Basic Global which is similar in function but contain far more information for almost the same price as our books. 10. Do companies pay to be in the book? Top No, unlike some other global business directories, companies can not pay to be in the book nor do we accept any advertising.
11. Do you accept standing orders for yet-to-be-published directories? Top Not any more.
12. Why don’t you include job postings? Top We do to a point. Only 20% of all jobs are in newspaper classifieds or posted online; the rest are filled beforehand through informal contact or referral networks. Uniworld quickly provides the hard-to-find contact information to help serious candidates break into the un-advertised international market. However, what we now provide with Uniworld Online only is whether or not a particular company, foreign or American, has a career posting section on their company website. With this information, you can more easily target only those companies that may have positions available if it is a career you wish to find by using Uniworld data.
13. How do I separate address information from within a single column in Excel? Top Open the Excel spreadsheet and highlight the column in question. To highlight the column, click in the shaded letter column heading box at the top of the column. Select "Data" from the main Excel menu. Select "Text to Columns" from the dropdown box. Depending on how the data is separated (e.g., commas, tabs, spaces) select the appropriate option.
14. How do I recombine the Excel download into a single spreadsheet? Top Many downloads of Uniworld data have more information than a single Excel spreadsheet is programmed to accept. Therefore, all Excel downloads are now split into multiple spreadsheets; three in the American Firms database and two in the Foreign Firms database. The link among the spreadsheets is the column labled "Parent ID." To recombine the data presuming it will fit on a single spreadsheet, use the VLOOKUP function in Excel.
